Chile is experiencing tremendous growth in the renewable energy sector; The share of renewable energy in electricity generation rose to 38.2% in February 2024, an increase of 7.9% from January.
Solar photovoltaic energy is at the forefront; It constitutes 22.9% of the total production, while the peak participation of renewable energy reached 69.5% per hour on February 2.
Over the course of 2024, renewable energy represents 39.8% of Chile's total electricity generation, with an installed production capacity of 16,361 MW, of which 9,916 MW is from solar PV. The country also has a storage capacity of 54 MW and 3 MW of green hydrogen production.
The PMG and PMGD sectors witnessed remarkable growth; Their installed production capacity reached 391 megawatts and 2941 megawatts, respectively.
Chile plans to further expand the renewable energy sector; There are 6,278 MW of renewable energy projects and storage systems under construction, 63% of which are solar photovoltaic projects.
These developments position Chile as a key player in the global transition towards sustainable energy solutions, and underscore the dominance of solar PV in the country's renewable energy landscape.
