Algeria's exports of liquefied gas to Europe increased by 12% during the first quarter of 2024, compared to the same period in 2023. According to recent data obtained by the Energy Research Unit (based in Washington) from the specialized “Energy” website, Algeria occupied third place. On the list of the largest countries exporting liquefied gas to Europe during the first quarter of 2024. Algeria’s exports of liquefied gas to Europe amounted to 3.01 million tons, representing 9.9% of the Old Continent’s total imports during the first quarter of this year.

The United States topped the list of the largest countries exporting liquefied gas to Europe, with an increase of 2.6% year-on-year to reach 15.35 million tons, equivalent to 50.5% of the continent’s total imports during the first quarter of 2024.

Russia ranked second, with an increase of 4% year-on-year to reach 5.06 million tons, equivalent to 16.6% of Europe’s total imports of liquefied gas. Qatar ranked fourth, while Egypt came in eighth place.

Europe's imports of liquefied gas decreased by 12.6% to 30.42 million tons during the first quarter of 2024, compared to the same period in 2023. Norway ranked fifth, with an increase of 19% year-on-year to reach 1.25 million tons, equivalent to 4.1% of Total European imports.

Nigeria came in sixth place, with a decrease of 44.3% year-on-year to reach 1.19 million tons, equivalent to 3.9% of the total imported by the continent during the first quarter of this year (2024). Algeria has strengthened its position as a major supplier of liquefied natural gas to Europe, with the increasing importance of this source in light of the global energy crisis.
