Expectations that US shale oil production will rise to its highest levels in 5 months next May

April 18, 2024

The US Energy Information Administration indicated that oil production from the largest shale producing areas in the United States is trending up; In order to record its highest level in five months next May, the administration expects the average oil production to reach about 9.85 million barrels of oil per day during the month of April and 9.86 million barrels during the month of May. This is considered the strongest rate of production since December 2023, and it is expected to rise. April expectations are about 78 thousand barrels per day more than what was expected in a report during March.

Thanks to improved well productivity – and the return of activity after the extreme cold during 2024 forced companies to stop production – shale oil production, which represents about three-quarters of total US oil production, has increased, and oil production is expected to rise in the Permian Basin – the largest American shale field extending between… West Texas and New Mexico – by about 11,500 barrels per day to 6.17 million barrels per day, which is considered the third highest monthly production ever.
