“Karr” wins the contract to develop the “Khalaisiya” gas field

May 14, 2024

The Iraqi company Karr won the contract to develop the Al-Khulaisiyah gas field, which is located in the Nineveh and Anbar governorates, adjacent to the Syrian border, in an important step towards strengthening the energy sector in Iraq.

The announcement of the victory of the Iraqi company Karr came within the activities of the supplementary projects of the fifth and sixth licensing rounds – under the slogan “Towards optimal investment of oil and gas wealth” – in the presence of Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani and Oil Minister Hayan Abdul-Ghani at the headquarters of the Ministry of Oil.

Data published on the Iraqi Oil Ministry's Facebook page indicate that the area of the Al-Khulaysia patch is estimated at approximately 8,167 square kilometers, and includes one drilled well.

The exploratory plots in the sixth licensing round include several areas, including the Tal Al-Hajar patch in Nineveh Governorate, and the Al-Khulaysiyah, Ana, Al-Anz, Akashat, North and South Rutbah patches, Tubal, and Al-Walid in Anbar Governorate, and the Al-Quraynan patch in Anbar and Najaf governorates.

No company has come forward to develop the South Rutba and North Rutba areas, which extend over areas estimated at 8,330 and 6,928 square kilometers, respectively.

In statements by the Minister of Oil, Abdul Ghani stressed the Ministry’s commitment to optimal investment of hydrocarbon resources, in line with the government program and the Prime Minister’s directives to increase oil and gas reserves, as well as sustaining and increasing production of crude oil and free gas, in addition to processing the gas associated with oil operations and converting it into productive energy that meets Local needs, especially for electric power stations, petrochemical and fertilizer industries, and exporting the surplus to global markets.

It is worth noting that Iraq continues its progress in the field of energy, with a special focus on developing the oil and gas sector to make the most of these natural resources.
