Aramco is supervising the development of the largest onshore oil field in the world

May 29, 2024

Saudi Aramco, the global oil giant, announced its supervision of the development of the Safaniya field, the largest onshore oil field in the world in terms of recoverable reserves and production capacity, in cooperation with the Norwegian company ABL, which specializes in marine insurance services.

APL will be responsible for providing Marine Warranty Survey (MWS) services within the Safaniya field; It will review, monitor and approve all operations associated with the transportation and installation of 13 offshore steel shallow water drilling rigs, as well as the associated piles, connectors and other sensitive parts of the project.

ABL will supervise the transportation of steel pallets and other related equipment from Qingdao Port in China to the Safaniya field in Saudi Arabia.

A team from APL in China will manage the contract and supervise the progress of work on the site, while the company's teams in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia will provide the necessary support.

APL work is scheduled to begin within days, with the project expected to be completed in July 2024.

The Safaniya field is an important element in Aramco’s plans to increase its oil production capabilities to 13 million barrels per day by 2027, from 12 million barrels per day currently.

The Safaniya field expansion project includes the construction of at least 4 gathering platforms, 29 wellhead platforms, and 22 water injection platforms, in addition to an offshore accommodation facility.

The project also includes the implementation of subsea pipelines, composite lines, and modifications to existing facilities.
