Russia launched one of the largest missile and drone attacks in more than 3 weeks against vital infrastructure in Ukraine, as a result of which Ukraine's air defenses shot down two-thirds of the missiles.
Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk stated that a total of 53 missiles of different models were launched, including four “Iskander” ballistic missiles launched from the Crimean Peninsula, along with 47 “Shahed” drones loaded with explosives, targeting Ukraine last night.
All but one drone was destroyed, although 18 missiles managed to evade the Ukrainian air defense.
Oleshchuk added: Russian terrorists do not abandon their intentions to destroy the country's fuel and energy sector.
Oleshchuk explained that all that Russia is constantly fighting are civilians, infrastructure, and energy facilities, noting that areas in southern, central, and western Ukraine were targeted last night with another barrage of more than 50 missiles of different models, in addition to about 50 “Shahadz” drones. ".
Energy Minister German Galoshenko stated that among the targets that were bombed were energy facilities in the Zaporizhzhia region in southern Ukraine, Ivano-Frankivsk in the west, Dnepropetrovsk and Kirovohrad in the center, and the Ukrainian-controlled part of the Donetsk region in the east.
While the Ukrainian State Emergency Service reported that a fire broke out in a vital infrastructure facility in the Ivano-Frankivsk region after the bombing, the governor of Zaporizhzhya, Ivan Fedorov, also confirmed that an energy facility in his region was attacked, without naming it.
Fedorov said that the passage of cars through the dam at the Dnipro Hydroelectric Power Station has been temporarily stopped.
Russia resumed its expanded attacks on Ukraine's electricity grid last month, targeting energy facilities across the country. Not only that, but President Vladimir Putin's forces have also escalated their attacks along the 1,200-kilometre (746-mile) front line, at the same time as Kiev's Western allies – including the United States and Germany – are preparing to allow the strikes on some targets inside Russia. .
