The International Energy Agency (IEA) has indicated that achieving the goal of tripling renewable energy by 2030 is within reach, but it requires countries to urgently bolster their plans. According to the agency’s analysis, the ambitions outlined by approximately 150 countries could result in the global production of around 8 thousand gigawatts of wind, solar, and hydropower by 2030. Although this falls short of the desired target of 11 thousand gigawatts, it marks significant progress compared to previous forecasts.

The IEA emphasizes that governments possess the necessary tools to expedite progress in the coming months. As countries prepare to review their national climate commitments in early 2025 as part of the UN’s efforts, there exists a substantial opportunity to develop concrete plans that promote renewable energy, thereby advancing global climate goals.

Since the inception of the 2015 Paris climate agreement, the world has witnessed an annual 11% increase in renewable energy adoption, accompanied by a notable reduction in costs. Growth rates reached record levels last year, with a staggering 50% increase from 2022. This underscores the increasing viability and importance of renewable energy sources in combating climate change.
