Ukraine’s electricity grid operator decided to extend previously planned power outages after a barrage of Russian missiles and drones targeted Ukrainian vital energy facilities for the eighth time since last March.
Ukrenergo extended the period of power outages across Ukraine by an additional two hours, making it clear that consumers can expect to be without electricity for ten hours until midnight.
Russian air strikes targeted electricity network equipment in the Far West and Zaporizhia regions, where two Ukrynergo employees were injured in Zaporizhya, and a fire broke out in a facility in the Lviv region. It took several hours to put out, and several fire brigades were used.
Many buildings were damaged, including an educational institution in the city of Ivano-Frankivsk in western Ukraine, as a result of a missile attack from Russia.
Russia has been carrying out air strikes on Ukraine’s power systems since the fall of 2022, leaving consumers across the former Soviet republic suffering power outages for hours at a time and often for weeks.
