Turkey Achieves Its Energy Independence with a Giant Gas Processing Ship

July 24, 2024

Turkey is seeking to strengthen its steps toward achieving its energy independence by purchasing a giant gas processing ship that will contribute to increasing local production and reducing the high energy import bill.

The ship is a key element in Turkey’s plan to achieve energy independence, as it will process natural gas from the Sakarya field in the Black Sea, provide gas access to homes through new pipelines, and be 60% cheaper than new ships.

The ship will process quantities sufficient for the needs of 5 million homes, and the field is expected to contribute to increasing production to 10 million cubic meters per day at the beginning of the year 2025, as Turkey aims to reach 40 million cubic meters per day in the second phase.

This step is a qualitative leap in Turkey’s efforts to achieve energy self-sufficiency, reduce its dependence on importing gas from abroad, and enhance its position as a regional energy center.

The new gas processing ship is an important investment for Turkey in the energy field, and this step confirms Ankara’s commitment to achieving its energy independence and enhancing its economic security.
