Global Nuclear Power Production Is Expected to Increase by 3.5% in 2025

July 23, 2024

PARIS – The latest July 2024 report from the International Energy Agency (IEA) predicts that nuclear power production will reach record levels in 2025, driven by growing global interest in the role of nuclear energy in achieving climate goals and reducing carbon emissions.

According to the report, the nuclear power sector is on track to achieve new production levels in 2025, with an expected growth of 3.5% to reach over 2,900 terawatt-hours globally.

Nuclear generation in 2024 is expected to grow by 1.6%, equivalent to 2,800 terawatt-hours of production.

This growth is fueled by the continued rise of the nuclear sector, with the completion of maintenance work on the French nuclear fleet, the restart of reactors in Japan, and the entry of new reactors in various markets, including China, India, Korea, and Europe.
