Recent reports predict that renewable energy projects in Saudi Arabia will cover more than 2,436,523 homes, equating to about 66.2% of households occupied by Saudi families. According to the latest census by the General Authority for Statistics, there are 3,681,927 housing units in the kingdom. Renewable energy projects, including over 17 solar and wind power projects, are expected to provide approximately 41,177,236 MWh annually.
The data reveals that about one-third of the homes benefiting from renewable energy will be from Public Investment Fund projects in Sudair, Saad, Ar Rass, and AlKahfah, covering approximately 1,015,228 housing units, representing 41.6% of the total units covered by renewable energy projects.
In the solar energy sector, the Shaybah project in the Mecca region is the largest in terms of coverage, serving around 351,729 housing units, which is 14.4% of the units equipped with solar energy. Following are the PIF projects in Al-Rass (315,775 units, 13%), Sudair (264,355 units, 10.8%), AlKahfah (258,524 units, 10.6%), and Saad (176,574 units, 7.2%).
Other projects will cover the remaining units, including AlHanakiyah (183,058 units, 7.5%), Al-Rass (110,848 units, 4.5%), Shaybah (102,445 units, 4.2%), Tabarjal (66,566 units, 2.7%), Jeddah (55,204 units, 2.3%), Rabigh (52,995 units, 2.2%), Saad (46,262 units, 1.9%), Wadi AlDawasir (15,617 units, 0.6%), and Layla (13,915 units, 0.6%).
Wind energy projects will cover approximately 17.2% of the residential units benefiting from renewable energy. These projects include locations in Yanbu (164,367 units, 6.7%), AlGhat (140,886 units, 5.7%), and Waad AlShamal (117,405 units, 4.8%).
