The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) reports significant progress in global renewable energy adoption, reaching 29.1% of electricity generation in 2022. This progress, driven by growth in solar and hydropower, particularly in Asia, North America, and Latin America, signifies a positive shift toward cleaner energy.
However, challenges persist. Reaching the Paris Climate Agreement goals requires a tripling of current growth rates. Wars, political instability, and the high cost of emerging technologies create roadblocks to investment. IRENA stresses the need for increased investment in research and development, streamlined regulations, and strengthened global cooperation.
