ACWA Power has announced the development of the Biruni autonomous wind power plant project in Uzbekistan, with an investment value of USD 260 million.
The project involves a partnership with the national electric grid of Uzbekistan for its implementation.
It includes the construction of a wind power plant with a production capacity of 200 MW and a battery energy storage system with a capacity of 100 MW in the Biruni region.
When completed, the project is expected to produce 800 million kilowatt-hours of clean energy annually; that is, it will supply about 292 thousand homes with electricity.
It will also save 212 million cubic meters of natural gas, along with reducing carbon emissions by 336 thousand tons per year.
It is noteworthy that Uzbekistan is the second largest market for “ACWA Power” in terms of the value of investments after Saudi Arabia, where there are 15 projects currently under development with a total investment of up to 15 billion dollars.
