The Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy is working to accelerate the pace of renewable energy projects to confront the energy shortage crisis that the country is suffering from, as it aims to add 750 megawatts of new electrical capacity from wind and solar energy by next October, with total investments amounting to $700 million.
Among these projects is a 250-megawatt wind energy project implemented by the Orascom Construction, Toyota, and Engie alliance, located in the Gulf of Suez region near Ras Gharib and scheduled to open next August.
A 500-megawatt solar power station implemented by the Emirati Company Al Nowais is located in the Kom Ombo area in Aswan Governorate, southern Egypt, and is scheduled to be operational next October.
These new projects are an important step in confronting the energy shortage crisis in Egypt, as they will contribute to increasing electricity supplies and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
These projects come at a time when Egypt is suffering from a lack of natural gas production, which has led to increased imports and higher costs.
The unprecedented increase in electricity consumption, which exceeded 37.5 gigawatts per day, indicates the urgent need to expand investments in renewable energy projects.
