Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Dr. Mahmoud Asmat, met with Dimitris Kopoulos, Chairman of Kopoulos Group, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in new and renewable energy and to expedite the implementation of the electricity interconnection project between Egypt and Greece.
The electricity interconnection project between Egypt and Greece is a strategic initiative aimed at achieving regional energy integration and enhancing energy security in the region. The project is expected to increase energy trade, allowing Egypt to export its surplus renewable energy to Europe, as well as enhance regional stability through greater cooperation between countries in the energy sector and reduce energy costs through increased competition among producers.
The Egyptian Minister highlighted the project’s importance in achieving Egypt’s vision of becoming a regional energy hub, pointing to Egypt’s vast potential in renewable energy and the importance of international collaboration to achieve this goal. The meeting reviewed the latest developments in the electricity interconnection project, underscoring the necessity of conducting necessary studies to ensure the project’s success. Discussions also covered potential cooperation between Egypt and Greece in renewable energy and the development of new projects in this field.
