The Egyptian Ministry of Electricity has decided to rely on the existing thermal power plants, which include gas, steam, and combined-cycle stations, and not to add any new projects of this type until 2030. However, renewable energy projects will continue to be implemented by the private sector.

A set of scenarios for peak load and energy demand over the next six years has been prepared to meet the demand for electricity while ensuring a safe reserve of generation capacities.

It is expected that the medium scenario for load and energy is the most likely to occur, and the study concluded that there is no need to add new thermal generation capacities during this period.

There was a plan to establish new thermal power plants according to the development of loads in Egypt, and it was intended to negotiate with companies of German, French, and American nationalities to implement them. However, the decision was made to rely on the existing stations and expand into renewable energy.

Egypt’s total nominal electrical capacity currently stands at 59.4 thousand megawatts, including 2,843 megawatts from gas stations, 18.17 thousand megawatts from steam stations, 32.2 thousand megawatts from combined-cycle stations, 2,831 megawatts from hydroelectric stations, 1,632 megawatts from solar energy, and 1,632 megawatts from wind energy.
