August 8, 2024

The Egyptian Ministry of Electricity is preparing to hold meetings in the coming weeks with five Arab and international companies involved in the planned projects in Egypt to produce 39 gigawatts of electricity from renewable energy.

Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power will implement wind energy projects in Egypt with a total capacity of 10 gigawatts, and the company is currently completing studies for the plants, with the proposed plan expected to be submitted before the end of December.

China’s State Grid has signed a memorandum of understanding to implement solar energy projects with a capacity of 10 gigawatts and investments reaching $9 billion, with the first phase expected to start in mid-next year.

The Masdar-Infinity-Hassan Allam alliance intends to implement wind energy plants with a total capacity of 10 gigawatts and investments exceeding $10 billion, with studies and consultations currently underway.

Norway’s Scatec plans to execute renewable energy projects with a capacity of 6 gigawatts, including 5 gigawatts of wind power and 1 gigawatt of solar energy.

The Orascom-Toyota alliance aims to execute wind power plants with a total capacity of 3 gigawatts, with a meeting scheduled within a month to present the implementation proposal and timeline.

Renewable energy currently contributes about 20% of Egypt’s total electricity production, with a target to increase this to more than 42% by 2035, according to Egypt’s energy diversification strategy.
