A fire broke out in the Crimean Peninsula on Saturday evening following an incident on a gas pipeline near the village of Vinogradnoye. The incident resulted in the disruption of gas supply to thousands of residents and widespread fire damage.
The fire spread from the pipeline to a nearby forest, raising concerns among local residents. Reuters reported that the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations confirmed there was no threat to populated areas.
Local authorities in Crimea stated that the fire caused a gas outage in the city of Alushta, which has a population of approximately 30,000, as well as 14 surrounding areas. The Crimean administration announced that repair work will commence as soon as the gas in the pipeline has completely burned out.
There have been no reports of injuries resulting from the fire. The cause of the incident remains unknown.
Emergency officials mentioned that an area of approximately 1,500 square meters was burned in the fire, while investigations into its cause are ongoing.
