At a cost of $7.4 billion.. “Morocco” establishes a green hydrogen production plant in “Boujdour”

March 28, 2024

Several Moroccan reports stated that the Boujdour region will witness the construction of a huge station, the aim of which is to produce green hydrogen. The cost of establishing the station is about 7.4 billion dollars, and it is expected that the capacity of the station to be built will reach about 1.8 gigawatts of renewable energy, which is sufficient to produce 100,000 tons of hydrogen and 600,000 tons of green ammonia, starting in 2028.

The specific dates for the start of development of the future platform are scheduled to be between 2026 and 2027, and the first phase of the station is expected to be operated during the years 2028 and 2029, which reflects the state’s commitment to the strict and effective timetable for the project based on the potential challenges.

In light of this, Ornx has developed a gradual plan aimed at meeting the changing demand at the local and global levels during the first phase of the project. The combined capacity of the station is expected to reach about 1.8 gigawatts of wind energy in addition to solar energy.

As for the production rate on the platform, it reaches more than 100 thousand tons of hydrogen and about 600 thousand tons of green ammonia. The mass production rate will be directed to local consumption in the Kingdom of Morocco, and the rest will be allocated for export.
