Switzerland is preparing to open the largest green hydrogen production station

May 1, 2024

Expo and its local partner, Repinergy, are preparing to open the largest green hydrogen production plant in Switzerland. It is located in the "domat-ems" area of the Reichenau hydroelectric power station, which has a production capacity of about 2.5 megawatts, and the company aims to produce up to 350 tons of green hydrogen annually.

The plant uses electrolysis to produce green electricity from the nearby hydroelectric power station, and green hydrogen is produced by compressing hydrogen in the plant; To facilitate its delivery to refueling stations and industrial customers.

For its part, Expo said that there are some obstacles that must be overcome to implement the factory, noting that construction work began on the site during January 2023, and it was expected to begin operation during 2024, but was postponed for a year.

The company plans to invest in a hydrogen production and distribution initiative designed to refuel vehicles in the Arve Valley in France, and the company is working to secure renewable energy aimed at producing hydrogen in order to allow zero-emission vehicles in the region to refuel.
