Toyota Motor Company unveiled prototypes of new internal combustion engines powered by hydrogen, as part of its efforts to develop alternative technologies aimed at reducing carbon emissions.
Toyota is developing these engines in cooperation with Mazda Motor and Subaru Corp. These new engines are smaller and more efficient than their predecessors. They can be installed on electric vehicle manufacturing platforms and meet stringent emissions standards.
Toyota and its partners stress that internal combustion engines will continue to play an important role in the future, even as companies seek to reduce carbon emissions, noting that their sales of hybrid cars powered by an internal combustion engine show continued demand for this technology.
Toyota CEO Koji Sato said: “In order to become carbon neutral, reducing emissions is the most important step, and what we need is to manufacture an engine that can operate on different types of fuel.”
Toyota is also involved in developing carbon-neutral fuel in cooperation with other companies; With the goal of launching this fuel in Japan by 2030.
Last year, Toyota achieved record results in terms of production, revenues, and stock prices. This provides it with the necessary resources to invest in developing new emissions-free technologies.
Toyota pledged to produce 1.5 million electric cars annually by 2026, and 3.5 million by 2030.
