“Saudi Arabia”: Developing huge projects to produce green hydrogen

June 2, 2024

Great strides have been made by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia towards achieving its ambitious goal of becoming a global producer and consumer of green hydrogen, through its focus on developing huge projects to produce this clean fuel.

The establishment of the largest green hydrogen production plant in the world in the NEOM region by 2026 is one of the most important of these projects.

The King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC) has issued a comprehensive book – entitled “The Future of Global Hydrogen: Saudi Arabia and Beyond” – that provides an in-depth analysis of the challenges and opportunities facing the Kingdom in the field of green hydrogen.

The book also discusses global efforts in this field, and ways to bridge the technology gaps facing the clean hydrogen sector.

NEOM Green Hydrogen Company is responsible for implementing the NEOM project to produce green hydrogen, which is expected to become the largest plant of its kind in the world. This plant is expected to produce green hydrogen at a cost of less than $2 per kilogram, among the lowest rates in the world.

The most important uses of green hydrogen in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are generating electricity, operating vehicles, and producing chemicals. Green hydrogen can also be exported to other countries that seek to reduce carbon emissions.
