Cargas, the Egyptian natural gas company for automobiles, witnessed an exceptional year in 2023. It achieved activity revenues of nearly 4 billion pounds for the first time in its history, recording a tremendous growth of 21% over the year 2022.
Natural gas sales rose to 504 million cubic metres. Which led to an annual saving in liquid fuel consumption of about 408 thousand tons, and this provided an added value to the national economy worth $286 million. This reflects the significant positive impact of Cargas on the Egyptian economy.
45 new supply stations were operated and opened during the year 2023, bringing the total of the company’s stations to 314 stations distributed throughout Egypt, and the establishment of 53 new transfer centers in 23 governorates. This facilitates access to natural gas for cars.
In addition, Cargas achieved outstanding growth in other areas, such as an increase in oil sales by 18% to reach 3,267 tons, 242,000 cars were converted to run on natural gas, and the company achieved natural gas car fuel sales amounting to 4.5 billion cubic meters since the start of the project. Its activity, and the company’s initiatives contributed to reducing carbon emissions by 321 thousand tons.
These exceptional results for Cargas are a huge positive step towards achieving Egypt’s goals in the field of clean energy and the transition towards using natural gas as an alternative to liquid fuels. These results also demonstrate Cargas’ efficiency in managing and operating its stations and services. Which strengthens its position as a leading company in the field of natural gas for vehicles in Egypt.
