“Kuwait Oil”: Connecting renewable energy stations to the national electricity grid

Kuwait Oil Company, owned by the Kuwaiti government, signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy to connect the renewable energy plants it intends to establish with a capacity of 1 gigawatt to the national electrical grid.

This is an important step towards enhancing Kuwait’s dependence on clean energy sources and reducing dependence on fossil fuels, in line with the “New Kuwait 2035” vision and the 2050 carbon neutrality strategy.

The agreement was signed by Ahmed Jaber Al-Eidan, CEO of Kuwait Oil Company, and Maha Al-Asomi, Acting Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, in the presence of senior officials from both sides.

The memorandum of understanding aims to enhance cooperation between the concerned authorities to facilitate the process of connecting renewable energy plants to the national grid, and to overcome any obstacles that may face the implementation of renewable energy projects.

Under the agreement, a joint work team will be formed by the Kuwait Oil Company and the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy. To discuss and develop plans and concepts to implement the energy transition strategy and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

This agreement comes within the framework of the persistent efforts made by the State of Kuwait to diversify energy sources and enhance the efficiency of its use, out of its belief in the importance of clean energy in achieving sustainable development and protecting the environment for future generations. It is also an important positive step towards a sustainable energy future in Kuwait, and embodies the commitment of the Kuwait Oil Company. Supporting the country's sustainable development process.
