Iraq Opens Gas Processing Project to Enhance Power Generation

June 9, 2024

Iraq has inaugurated the associated gas processing project in the Halfaya Field in Maysan Governorate, marking the culmination of tireless government efforts over the years. This initiative aims to reduce the flaring of associated gas in oil fields and harness it for energy generation, contributing to economic development.

TheHalfaya Field, which is associated with the gas processing project, holds great strategic importance. It can process up to 300 million standard cubic feet of associated gas per day, the gas that was previously flared, causing environmental hazards and air pollution.

This project is expected to bring significant benefits to Iraq, including environmental preservation. By reducing the flaring of associated gases, the project will help lower emissions and mitigate air pollution. Additionally, it will reduce Iraq’s dependence on energy imports, enhance energy security, and move the country toward energy self-sufficiency.

Furthermore, the project will create new job opportunities, attract foreign investments, diversify national income sources, and improve the quality of life for citizens. It will provide reliable electricity, clean cooking gas, and affordable gas fuel for vehicles. The inauguration of the associated gas processing project in the Halfaya Field represents a crucial step towardachieving Iraq’s clean energy and sustainable development goals.
