Israel plans to expand its natural gas exports to Egypt by constructing a new Israeli gas pipeline that will be about 65 kilometers long and cost over one billion shekels. Israeli media revealed that work on the new pipeline will begin in early 2025 to export natural gas to Egypt. The Israeli Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Eli Cohen, signed the project for the construction of a new pipeline to export natural gas, which will be built between Ramat Hovav and Nitzana, confirming that it will allow for the expansion of gas exports to Egypt. The project is expected to increase investments in Israel’s natural gas sector and bring hundreds of millions of shekels to Tel Aviv’s treasury. The Minister of Energy and Infrastructure stated, “The natural gas economy is a strategic asset for Israel, enhancing its economic and political standing globally and in the Middle East in particular.” He added, “For this reason, especially nowadays, we must work to expand natural gas production and export, both to Europe and to the region. The construction of the new pipeline will make it possible to expand gas exports to Egypt, strengthen our position in the region, increase state revenues, and lower prices for the benefit of Israeli citizens.”
