Kuwait Ramps Up Offshore Exploration, Aiming for Production Boost

July 18, 2024

Kuwait Oil Company has announced ambitious plans to drill six exploratory wells in its offshore territories, marking the latest phase in the country’s push to increase oil production.

This exploration campaign will be followed by comprehensive 3D seismic surveys to further assess the region’s hydrocarbon potential.

The company recently relocated its offshore drilling platform, Oriental Phoenix, to a new sector within the Jazza offshore area. This move follows the successful discovery of the Al-Nukhidaoffshore field, where Kuwait Petroleum Corporation previously announced a significant find estimated at 3.2 billion barrels of oil equivalent.

Kuwait Oil Company expects to encounter oil-bearing layers from both the Cretaceous and Jurassic periods in these offshore blocks.

The company is now actively developing a field development plan for the Al-Nukhida discovery, aiming to bring it online and contribute to production as quickly as possible.
