Morocco has made remarkable progress, topping the list of Arab countries in the Climate Performance Index 2023 and ranking 6th globally among 63 countries.
This remarkable achievement comes as the culmination of the tireless efforts made by the Kingdom of Morocco in the field of transition toward sustainable energy, as it has been able to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, enhance the use of renewable energy, and improve energy efficiency.
This strategic approach has contributed to Morocco obtaining a high rating in the various indicators included in the study, which focused in particular on greenhouse gas emissions, renewable energy use, energy efficiency, and climate policy.
Morocco did not stop there but set its sights on more ambitious goals, as it seeks to reduce carbon emissions by 45.5% by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
The increasing investments in green hydrogen projects confirm the Kingdom’s determination to move forward on this path.
It is noteworthy that Morocco’s hosting of the 22nd Conference of the Parties to Climate Change (COP22) in 2016 constituted a real turning point in the Kingdom’s march toward the transition toward sustainable energy, as it launched many ambitious initiatives and projects in this field.
