Morocco Turns Energy Challenges into Investment Opportunities

July 24, 2024

A recent study revealed that Morocco’s strategy to reduce its energy dependency to 88% has helped preserve its financial resources and protect the environment. The study, published by the Arab Democratic Center, praised Morocco’s initiative to develop a national renewable energy strategy, positioning the kingdom as a key player in the sector.

Researchers Rachid Meftahi and Issa Bouzidi highlighted that, since 2009, Morocco has been implementing an innovative national energy strategy aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and addressing rising energy costs. This strategy was followed by an energy efficiency strategy, representing a critical step toward more sustainable energy consumption.

In 2017, Morocco launched its national sustainable development strategy, aiming to increase the share of renewable energy to 42% by 2020 and 52% by 2030. This initiative, aligned with the national strategic approach to sustainable development, promises a new era focused on minimizing environmental impact while promoting green and inclusive growth.

The successful implementation of this strategy has made Morocco a model in the renewable energy sector, transforming energy challenges into investment opportunities and driving major developmental projects in the field.
