The G7 continues its pressure on Russia in the context of the ongoing energy war. The group's energy ministers are discussing imposing restrictions on imports of Russian liquefied natural gas to Europe.

Italian Energy Minister Gilberto Beccito Frattin confirmed that the group is actively seeking to implement this step, noting that research is currently underway to determine the next steps.

On the other hand, Russia warns of the repercussions of any new sanctions on the European energy sector, and stresses its efforts to find solutions to overcome any restrictions that may be imposed.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described potential sanctions as “attempts to push Russia out of energy markets and push Europe toward more expensive markets.”

Sources indicate that the upcoming European sanctions package may include for the first time restrictions on Russian liquefied natural gas, including banning transshipment operations within the European Union and targeting Russian liquefied natural gas projects.

Other sources suggest that these sanctions are in the interest of the United States. Europe will have to pay higher prices to obtain gas.
