Algerian Energy Minister Mohamed Arkab affirmed his country's commitment to strengthening its role as a reliable global energy supplier, through huge investments in exploration, production, and gas transportation infrastructure, ensuring energy security, and responding to the growing demand for energy in a sustainable manner.

The minister revealed a huge investment program worth more than $52 billion, aiming to increase gas production to 110 billion cubic meters annually, stressing Algeria’s commitment to implementing a strategy to double primary energy production, especially natural gas, with a commitment to securing long-term supply while reducing the carbon footprint. .

The Minister stressed the importance of access to energy for all, noting that Algeria attaches great importance to increasing electricity production capacity and strengthening the infrastructure for energy transmission and distribution. Which led to providing ideal coverage of the country; As a result, the majority of citizens now have access to affordable electricity and gas.

The Minister also stressed Algeria's commitment to international initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas and methane emissions, noting that Algeria has joined many global initiatives in this regard, and has begun a project to plant more than 420 million trees over 10 years.

The Algerian minister stressed the importance of cooperation between the Group of Seven countries and developing countries, calling for the principles of common interest in favor of achieving comprehensive and sustainable development. He also affirmed Algeria's support for efforts aimed at confronting global challenges, such as climate change and energy security, including in Africa. To ensure access to energy for all and meet the needs of the most vulnerable.

The energy transition in Algeria is considered an evolutionary process towards a diverse and balanced energy mix. Its aim is to meet the growing demand in a sustainable, economical and safe way, while reducing environmental impacts. A major commitment has been made to achieve 30% renewable energies in the national energy mix by 2035.

Hydrogen development is one of the priorities of the Algerian government. The country has important advantages to become a major player at the regional level in this field. Algeria's ambition is to become a major energy hub at the regional level and a center for energy exchanges through several huge and ambitious projects. Strengthening electrical connections in Algeria, in addition to connections with Europe, will play a crucial role in accelerating the energy transition, while supporting regional development.

Among the projects that Algeria is working on are the huge electrical connection of the southern Algerian network with the national grid, the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline Project (TSGP), which will connect Nigeria to Europe via Algeria and Niger, and the “South 2” project, which aims to connect Algeria to Europe via a pipeline dedicated to transporting hydrogen. the green.
