The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources revealed that the import bill for liquefied gas during the next four months of the summer will reach more than $500 million.

According to the ministry, the value of one shipment ranges between 40 and 45 million dollars, noting that the process of converting liquefied gas to natural gas takes place in the floating gasification unit in Jordan until the arrival of the gasification unit that Egypt is negotiating with the Norwegian company Hoge, and its monthly rental value is scheduled to be added to the bill. Importing liquefied gas.

The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum imports shipments of liquefied gas during the summer period to meet the increasing demand for natural gas from the electricity sector and reduce power outages. The import is done through EGAS, an Egyptian natural gas holding company, and the shipments are expected to be delivered at Sheikh Port. Sabah in the Jordanian city of Aqaba and gasified through a floating natural gas gasification unit in Jordan and then transported through the gas pipeline linking Egypt and Jordan.

EGAS is negotiating with the Norwegian company Hoge, which specializes in gas gasification units. To rent a liquefied gas gasification unit to convert liquefied gas, which is imported in liquid form, into gaseous form.

An agreement was signed between Jordan and the Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) during June 2023, which includes reducing operational costs to facilitate the storage and gasification of liquefied gas by jointly utilizing the floating gasification unit for liquefied natural gas.

Egypt rented two gasification stations to receive liquefied gas shipments in addition to converting to natural gas during the year 2015. The station, which belongs to the Norwegian company Hoge LNG, arrived during April 2015, and the second station, which belongs to the Norwegian-Singaporean company BW Gas, arrived.

During the year 2020, the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources renewed the lease contract for the gasification station – which belongs to the Norwegian-Singaporean company BW Gas – for a period of three years, which ended last November.
