The State of Congo has succeeded in making an offshore oil discovery as an exciting development for the energy sector, the first of its kind in more than thirty years. This enhances its potential and highlights its promising reserves in the global oil market.

According to what was reported in the specialized energy platform, the Anglo-French company Perenco was able to achieve the first offshore oil discovery in the Congo just two months after it acquired the assets of the Italian oil company Eni.

Mwanda International Oil, the offshore subsidiary of Perenco, announced the discovery, which was made during a drilling campaign off the coast of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

During the current year, the company drilled two exploratory wells that resulted in an oil discovery in the Muki-East well, located between the Lokami and Motoba fields in the Congo coastal basin.

The drilling work was carried out using the Noada 82 SD-C self-elevating drilling rig, owned by Dixton.

The Noada drilling rig has now moved to the GCO field; The activities will continue for the next 12 months.

This step is part of an ongoing development drilling campaign aimed at enhancing Congo's hydrocarbon resources, and it is expected that these works will be completed in parallel with the well maintenance unit at the same site.

“It has been an active start to the year, which has included the drilling of the first offshore exploration wells in the country in nearly 30 years,” commented Frederic Kipferle, Managing Director of Perenco Congo, on this achievement.

Kipferley expressed his company's commitment to discovering new resources, noting the positive prospects for the oil and gas industry in Congo, and that the new projects may contribute to valuing the liquefied petroleum gas extracted from the gas for the local market or providing more gas for electricity generation.

Perenco is also continuing drilling activities in other fields near previous discoveries off the coasts of Gabon and Cameroon, and plans to redevelop oil assets in the Campos Basin offshore Brazil.

Eni is committed to developing gas resources in Congo, especially through the Congo LNG project. To meet the country's electricity needs, support liquefied gas exports, and provide new quantities of gas for export to international markets, especially Europe.
