“Angola” sets a new condition for rejoining “OPEC”

March 21, 2024

Angolan Minister of Oil and Gas, Jose Barroso, commented on his country’s exit from OPEC at the end of 2023. He said that his country's goal is to continue production at the level of 1.1 million barrels of oil per day until the period from 2027 to 2030.

Barroso added that there is a possibility that Angola will return to OPEC if it is allowed to produce the same quantity that it would like to produce, no less. Because if you produce less than that, it will affect the amount of investment in the country.

Angola is currently turning to producing gas instead of oil because Angola is witnessing a decline in its oil production since 2008. In 2008, production reached its peak, i.e. 2 million barrels per day. So, the percentage by which the amount of gas produced decreased by 15% annually.

To overcome the lack of Angolan gas production, Barroso announced that his country will launch a floating station for the production of liquefied natural gas.

In a related context, Angola announced its "satisfaction" with the current global oil prices, which range from 85 to 90 dollars.
