The Sultanate of Oman is witnessing strong growth in its natural gas production, with expectations that it will continue until 2035, reaching 46 billion cubic metres, an increase of more than 20% from 2022.
This growth is due to the Khazzan Makarem unconventional gas field expansion project, and the Mabrouk field project located in the northeast of the country, the first phase of which production began in 2023, while the second phase is expected to be completed in 2026.
The oil and gas sector in Oman is the most attractive to foreign investments. It accounted for 56.4% of total foreign investments by the end of 2022.
Oman continues to sign more deals that guarantee the sale of discovered gas in the form of contracts, most of which are long-term. The Sultanate is among the most prominent Arab countries in exporting natural gas.
Due to maintenance work carried out by the Oman LNG station, Oman’s exports of liquefied gas declined to 11.4 million tons in 2023, compared to 11.5 million tons in 2022.
However, the volume of Omani gas exports recorded last year is the second highest rate recorded by the country in its history.
At the beginning of this year, Omani gas exports rose to 1.008 million tons in February, compared to 1.004 million tons last January.
The Sultanate expects the Mabrouk field's natural gas production to reach 500 million cubic feet per day (14 million cubic meters per day) by mid-2024.
