Japan imported 31.58 million barrels of UAE oil in January, equivalent to 41.9% of total imports.

Japan's dependence on crude oil coming from the Middle East rose to 95.1% during 2023, according to data from the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

In general, Japan imported 2.5 million barrels per day during the year 2023, and this percentage is considered 7% less than in 2022, while the percentage of Japan’s imports from Saudi Arabia and the Emirates increased to 40.4% and 39%, respectively, from 38.1% and 37.9% in 2022. .

These numbers are an important indicator of the strength of trade relations between the UAE and Japan, and reflect Japan's heavy dependence on crude oil from the Middle East.
