“Putin”: Russian gas supplies will reach 11 billion cubic meters

May 29, 2024

Russian President Vladimir Putin visited Uzbekistan; He met with his Uzbek counterpart, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and announced Russian supplies of Russian gas to Uzbekistan. Putin also announced that Russian gas supplies would reach 11 billion cubic meters by 2025.

It is noted that Putin is trying to get closer to the Central Asian countries that were former Soviet republics after the Russian-Ukrainian war, even though those republics have not announced their full support for Russia in the war.

Putin added that Russia and Uzbekistan will cooperate with each other in what is known as a “joint investment fund,” in which the investment value will reach $500 million and Russia will put in an estimated $400 million.

Part of the cooperation between Russia and Uzbekistan came in the form of building nuclear plants at a cost of 55 megawatts and 6 nuclear reactors.

Uzbekistan welcomed the construction of these nuclear reactors. Because, despite the presence of uranium in abundance, it does not possess any nuclear plants, so this deal came with Russia as an important source for using uranium and converting it into nuclear energy, which generates an important economic source.
