Secretary General of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Croatia Ivo Milatec announced his country's intention to make progress in the field of renewable energy for the year 2024; Companies operating in the solar and wind energy sector were given support, which resulted in the generation of the equivalent of 800 megawatts in January and February of this year.
Milatek added that Croatia seeks to generate an additional 1,200 megawatts of renewable energy by the end of 2024; By 2028, the country’s energy capacity will reach about 3.5 gigawatts. Which means that the country will accelerate its goal of generating the same amount of energy by 2030.
Milatek stated that his country is making remarkable progress in its production of solar energy. The amount the country produces of solar energy increased in 2018, which was only 55 megawatts, until it became 600 megawatts in 2023. Melatek also expects that his country will be able to add 500 megawatts of solar energy in 2024.
Milatek's statements came during the "ReSource Croatia Hope 2024" conference, which also contained complaints from energy companies operating in Croatia, which highlight the problem of these companies' delay in obtaining approvals from the government to connect electrically with the national electricity grid to begin implementing projects.
