“Mazen” leads the renewable energy revolution in “Morocco”

May 26, 2024

The Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN) is making great strides towards achieving its ambitious goals in the field of renewable energy.

With the completion of construction work on the “Nassim Koudiyah Al Bayda” wind farm renovation project in the north of the Kingdom, and the start of pumping the first megawatts into the national grid, Morocco’s commitment to strengthening the clean energy sector is evident.

The “Naseem Kodia Al Bayda” wind energy production project, which was constructed in 2000, is the first project of its kind in Africa and the Middle East.

The project has witnessed a comprehensive redevelopment process; Where old turbines were replaced with newer, more efficient units; This allowed the farm's capacity to be doubled from 50 to 100 megawatts.

Meanwhile, another wind farm, the 270-megawatt Naseem Jabal Al-Hadid, is close to starting production of its first megawatt.

This project is also scheduled to begin operation during the first half of 2024. This contributes to achieving Morocco’s ambitious goal of reaching a 52% share of renewable energy in the energy mix by 2030.

The Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN) is currently developing other renewable energy projects with a total capacity of more than 4,500 MW, including the Nour Midelt 1, Nour Midelt 2 and Nour Atlas solar power plants, the construction of which is scheduled to begin this year.

Through these pioneering projects, Morocco confirms its firm commitment to the transition towards a sustainable energy future, enhancing energy security, and leading the region towards a greener future.
