The Hydropower Stations Company in Egypt owns 6 hydroelectric generating stations, distributed in the governorates of Luxor, Qena, Assiut, and Aswan, with a total generating capacity of 2,832 megawatts.

Although generating electricity from water in Egypt currently does not exceed 8% of the total electricity consumed, the Egyptian government is working hard to maintain existing stations and increase their efficiency.

These efforts include a project to replace and renew 12 electrical transformers at the High Dam, in addition to development work for the monitoring and operation system according to the latest technologies.

Despite the challenges Egypt faces regarding water scarcity, there are future plans to increase electricity generation from water, including new hydroelectric projects.

The Ministry of Electricity stresses the importance of renewable energy sources, especially generating electricity from water, in compensating for the decline in natural gas production needed to operate fossil fuel plants.

Generating electricity from water is one of the oldest sources of energy in the world, and it is still one of the largest sources of generating electricity from renewable energy sources.

This source of energy faces some challenges due to climate change and increased rates of drought, but there is still great potential for its development and benefit.
