The Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development in Morocco, Leila Benali, said that renewable energy investments in her country have reached 60 billion dirhams, stressing that these investments represent a qualitative leap in the energy sector.
Renewable energies in Morocco currently produce 4.6 gigawatts; Which meets a fifth of the demand for electricity in the Kingdom.
During the term of the current government, licenses were granted for projects with a capacity exceeding 2 gigawatts of renewable energy, and this is considered the largest capacity the ministry has licensed in its history.
Some energy efficiency projects were integrated into industrial zones. Which enhances sustainability and development in this sector.
During the period from 2023 to 2027, the Ministry seeks to strengthen Morocco’s position in the field of renewable energies, energy efficiency and integration.
The goal is to raise the production of renewable energy to 7.5 gigawatts, taking into account green hydrogen and seawater desalination projects.
The Ministry also seeks to increase annual investment in the field of renewable energies. The investment aims to reach 15 billion dirhams.
These steps enhance Morocco's role in achieving sustainable development goals and relying on clean energy sources.
National electrical energy production increased by 5.7% in the first quarter of 2024, private production increased by 8%, and renewable energy production increased by 42.8% thanks to local laws and legislation.
