Abu Dhabi Ports Group (ADX: ADPORTS) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Transmar, the leading container shipping and terminal operator in the Middle East and North Africa, and Orascom Construction, a leading global engineering and construction company.
This memorandum aims to study a project to develop a facility to store and export green methanol in Egypt, and provide low-carbon fuel for use in maritime transport.
Green methanol is a clean and sustainable fuel, a synthetic fuel that can be produced from green hydrogen in a renewable manner and without polluting emissions.
Green methanol is used as a low-carbon liquid fuel, and is considered a good alternative to fossil fuels. It has low emissions and is non-toxic, and is widely used in various industries.
There are many benefits, including storing and transporting green methanol that is easier, safer, and less expensive; Since it is a liquid fuel.
Green methanol is produced from renewable feedstocks, such as renewable hydrogen and biomethane, and is used in existing infrastructure and enhances energy sustainability.
There are several effective solutions aimed at refueling ships, especially for major shipping line operators.
More than 100 green methanol-fueled vessels are expected to be in service as of 2024.
This initiative contributes to achieving the UAE’s goals in the field of decarbonization. It also enhances the energy transition in the field of maritime shipping and supports the use of green hydrogen.
