Data issued by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development revealed that over the past four decades, it has invested 35.3 billion dirhams – equivalent to $9.6 billion – in sustainable development projects in 42 African countries.
During 2023, the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development played a key role in the UAE-led initiative worth 16.5 billion dirhams ($4.5 billion) to strengthen clean energy infrastructure in Africa. This initiative was formulated in cooperation with the Africa50 Fund, a pan-African investment platform.
Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, said that the UAE is committed to supporting African countries in their quest to achieve economic and social progress, noting that over the past decade, the Fund has made significant contributions to developing infrastructure, diversifying African economies, and unleashing their full potential.
Al Suwaidi pointed out that these projects reflect the UAE’s commitment to promoting sustainable development in Africa, through investment in the fields of renewable energy, water and infrastructure, stressing the continuation of these efforts to achieve sustainable and positive improvements in the region.
