The Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy aims to increase the energy generated during the current fiscal year 2023/2024 to 228 billion kilowatt-hours, a growth rate of 3.6%, compared to 220 billion kilowatt-hours in the fiscal year 2022/2023.
The state’s economic and social development document for the current fiscal year 2023/2024 – presented by the Minister of Planning, Dr. Hala Al-Saeed, and approved by Parliament in its two chambers (Representatives and Senate) – confirms that the electricity sector has witnessed remarkable development during the last eight years to secure the electricity needs of all development and service sectors.
This comes after the electrical power supply failed to meet the increasing loads during the period 2012-2014. Since then, work has been done to develop reserves by intensifying research and exploration activities, in addition to increasing production of crude oil and natural gas at high rates. Work has also been done to achieve self-sufficiency in locally produced natural gas by September 2018.
Efforts have also aimed to diversify the sources of fuel used in electricity production and increase the exploitation of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind energy, as well as the manufacture of green hydrogen.
