Turkey is taking important steps towards using sustainable energy

March 28, 2024

Turkey has made an important leap towards sustainable energy use, according to the latest report issued by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources. The report reveals that renewable energy sources contribute 42.15% to electricity production in the country. This reflects Turkey's strong commitment to reducing its dependence on energy imports, which greatly affects its current account deficit.

By the end of 2023, Türkiye's renewable energy capacity had risen to remarkable levels; It amounted to 11,315 megawatts of solar energy, 31,964 megawatts of hydroelectric energy, 4,152 megawatts of geothermal and bioenergy, in addition to 11,803 megawatts of wind energy.

The reports also highlight the significant financial benefits of this shift; Energy efficiency measures in public buildings have saved an annual amount of $35 million, equivalent to 1.14 billion Turkish liras.

Türkiye is actively working to significantly increase these savings by 2030; The country aims to achieve an economy of 5.7 billion Turkish liras annually by implementing more energy efficiency measures.
This increase in the use of renewable energy and the resulting financial gains come within the framework of Turkey's tireless efforts to confront the global challenges of climate change, by reducing dependence on non-renewable energy sources and focusing efforts on developing sustainable energy infrastructure.

Thus, Türkiye takes a leadership position in the field of sustainable energy practices. It works to achieve sustainable development and preserve the environment by relying on clean and renewable energy sources.
