The Authority of Oman’s electricity production increased by 14.1% at the end of January

The Authority of Oman’s total electricity production until the end of January 2024 increased by 14.1% on an annual basis compared to the same period in 2023, and electricity production during March 2024 reached about 2609.3 gigawatts per hour during April 2023.

There is an increase in the Sultanate of Oman’s electricity production to meet the increasing demand for energy over the past few years. The Gulf state has resorted to diversifying its sources by adopting renewable energy and green hydrogen within the energy mix and within the “Oman 2040” vision.

The Authority of Oman’s electricity production increased in the governorates of North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah and Al Dhahirah, reaching 1,660.1 gigawatts per hour. Total production in the Muscat Governorate decreased by 114.3% until the end of January, reaching 1.7 gigawatts per hour. Production in the Dhofar Governorate decreased by 2%, recording about 297.2 GW. Gigawatts per hour.

The Authority of Oman’s electricity production in the Al Sharqiyah and South Al Sharqiyah governorates reached 30.5%, recording about 627.9 gigawatts per hour. The total production in the Central Governorate decreased by 93.5%, reaching about 1.4 gigawatts per hour.

Oman works to support the country's national economy, as it depends mainly on energy. The state seeks to develop a number of energy projects, especially after its connection to the electricity sector. The Sultanate of Oman's efforts aim to develop more projects in addition to entering new fields, most notably the green hydrogen sector.

During the year 2023, there were strong moves by electricity companies in the Sultanate of Oman to pump huge investments in developing the infrastructure of the electricity sector. With the aim of supporting the vital and main sector and developing projects, Oman’s goal is to maintain the reliability of the service in addition to providing electricity to citizens in an effective and reliable manner, in addition to meeting the intense demand, as infrastructure projects came at the forefront.

There are several projects aiming to establish the Barakah waste-to-energy station, which is currently being worked on. This is in line with Oman’s efforts to achieve its pledges to reach carbon neutrality by 2050, in addition to the transition to a circular economy.
