On April 12, 2025, Prime Minister of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan, Akylbek Japarov, announced plans to build a solar energy station located near Balikchi in the Issyk-Kul region in the north of the country. The production capacity of the station is expected to reach about 400 megawatts, and it is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2025. .
During the launch ceremony, Japarov stated that the Cabinet is giving solar, wind and biogas technologies a major priority. Japarov praised the progressive initiatives, which included large-scale hydropower plants in Kambarata, as well as hundreds of smaller hydropower plants across the country.
The goal of establishing the stations is to achieve energy independence. The first phase of work on the Kambaratahpp-1 project has been completed and is currently being worked on to update its feasibility. India will become one of the largest countries producing hydroelectric power in the region after the completion of the station’s operation.
