The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced on Monday the implementation of two projects to produce electricity from solar energy at a total investment cost of 1.05 billion Egyptian pounds, funded by the European Union. The first project is being implemented at the Assiut Refinery. The project's capacity is 10 megawatts, and its cost is 550 million Egyptian pounds. Its operating cost is expected to reach 11 months, and it is being implemented by Enppi and Petrojet. The General Petroleum Company is implementing the second project, which has a capacity of 6.5 megawatts. The cost of the wax is 500 million Egyptian pounds.
The project is of great importance as it will provide alternative and sustainable energy sources for Egypt, and will also reduce loads on the national electricity grid, thus saving the consumption of quantities of petroleum fuel used in power generation.
