The UAE promotes sustainable energy until 2050

April 16, 2024

The UAE government is striving to keep pace with the growing demand for energy by adopting renewable and clean energy sources and enhancing its energy infrastructure.

This trend coincides with the activities of the World Future Energy Summit, which is being held in Abu Dhabi, and the Middle East Energy Exhibition 2024 in Dubai.

Projections indicate that global investments in renewable energy, fossil fuels, infrastructure, electricity and energy efficiency will reach $95 trillion by 2050.

The UAE is focusing on increasing the contribution of renewable energy to three times, and raising the installed capacity of clean energy from 14.2 gigawatts to 19.8 gigawatts by 2030.

These efforts are part of the UAE's international commitments and in line with the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement, and the country aims to ensure access to clean, affordable energy, and achieve the United Nations sustainable development goals.

Projections indicate that the cost of offshore wind energy will decrease by about 35% by 2030, and the cost of coastal wind energy will decrease by 26%.

As governments continue to increase investment in this sector, the costs of clean and renewable energy are expected to decrease further, and this will contribute to strengthening countries’ economies and providing cleaner and more sustainable energy for all.
