Chinese companies begin building solar power plants in Algeria

April 24, 2024

Chinese media announced that the Chinese Power China Energy Company has begun building a power plant through solar photovoltaic energy in southern Algeria. Its production is about 220 megawatts.

Mohamed Arkab, Minister of Energy and Mines, laid the foundation stone for this project, which is scheduled to be held in the Bir Naam region of Biskra Province, which is about 400 kilometers southeast of Algeria.

Reports indicate that the project is expected to take 16 months to complete. The company will work to strengthen the electrical network in the region, in addition to creating job opportunities and stimulating the solar energy industry.

The station includes 23 photovoltaic subfields and approximately 334,379 photovoltaic solar panels in addition to supporting structures.

Last March, the foundation stone was laid for a 200 MW solar photovoltaic power plant in the state of Al-Mughayir. It is being built by a Chinese general architecture company, and this project aims to facilitate the transition process to benefit from solar energy in Algeria.
